MMO, PDO and ACE together carry 16% of the final grade, alongside Planning's 4%, for a combined 20%. Some Paper 4 questions test PDO and ACE through data-handling alone, without requiring apparatus — meaning data literacy is examinable even on a day nothing goes wrong at the bench.

Likely gap: Planning (P). This is the skill area most students get the least live practice at, because it doesn't need apparatus to rehearse — it needs repeated exposure to real SEAB-style planning questions and structured feedback on your written method. That's exactly where the first diagnostic session starts.
Likely gap: Manipulation, Measurement & Observation (MMO). Often a time-allocation problem, not a skill problem — for example, over-polishing a low-mark biological drawing at the expense of a higher-value question later in the paper. We rehearse pacing against real mark allocations, not just technique in isolation.
Likely gap: Presentation of Data & Observations (PDO). Graph-type selection and significant-figure rules are mechanical, rule-based, and entirely fixable — this is usually the fastest skill area to improve once the rules are made explicit and drilled against real data sets.
Likely gap: Analysis, Conclusions & Evaluation (ACE). This is a language problem as much as a science one — knowing the difference between describing what happened and evaluating it. We train the specific phrasing SEAB markers are looking for, against your own experimental data.
A biological drawing is typically worth a handful of marks out of fifty. Perfecting it while a higher-value planning or data-analysis question goes unanswered is one of the most common, most avoidable ways to lose marks under time pressure.
Under exam adrenaline, it's tempting to begin setting up after reading only the first few steps. Misreading a later instruction can mean restarting an experiment with no extra time allowance.
Values from addition or subtraction should be reported to the same number of decimal places as the least precise raw measurement used; values from multiplication or division should follow the least precise number of significant figures. Small, rule-based, and consistently under-practised.
A continuous trend calls for a line of best fit or curve; data with no clear trend calls for point-to-point; a discontinuous variable calls for a bar chart; frequency across a continuous variable calls for a histogram. Marks are lost here even when the underlying data is correct.

If you are registering as a private candidate for a science subject that includes a practical paper, SEAB requires that you either have previously sat that same subject as a school or private candidate, or be currently attending — and complete before the date of your practical paper — a course of instruction in science practical at an institute or school. You are required to declare that you have met this requirement at the point of registration, and a false declaration can lead to your registration being cancelled without a refund of examination fees.
In practice: if you have never sat H2 Biology's practical component before, plan to begin structured practical preparation well ahead of the SEAB registration window, not in the final weeks before the exam — both to genuinely build the skills, and so your declaration at registration is honestly supportable.
