L1R5 stands for 1 Language plus 5 Relevant subjects — the O-Level aggregate used to post students into Junior College through the Joint Admissions Exercise. Your gross L1R5 is the raw six-subject total. Your net L1R5 is that figure after bonus-point deductions — up to 2 points for a CCA achievement grade, and up to 2 more for Higher Mother Tongue Language or school affiliation. It is your net score that gets compared against the ranges below.
A cut-off point is not a single fixed number. Each course publishes a range: the lower value is roughly the strongest admitted student's score, the upper value is the weakest admitted student's score — effectively last year's cut-off for that stream. Meeting the upper bound doesn't guarantee a place; it only tells you last year's intake included students at that score.
Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and St. Joseph's Institution run the International Baccalaureate Diploma rather than the Singapore-Cambridge A-Level course, so their admission scoring works differently to the JC rows — treat any figures shown for them separately, not as directly comparable L1R5 cut-offs.
MOE has confirmed that Junior College and Millennia Institute admission moves from the current L1R5 scale (1 language + 5 relevant subjects, qualifying at 20 points) to L1R4 (1 language + 4 relevant subjects) from 2028. The first cohort affected is the group sitting O-Levels in 2027.
In short: if your child sits O-Levels in 2026 and posts into JC for 2027, nothing changes — it's the current L1R5 system, and this is the final year it applies before the switch. If your child sits O-Levels in 2027 (JC intake 2028), they'll be the first cohort under L1R4, and cut-off ranges won't be directly comparable to anything shown on this page until MOE publishes the first L1R4 figures.
