Mr Kirby Ng

A Level Economics Specialist

Academic Credentials:

Bachelor of Arts (Economics), NUS

Teaching Experience and Track Record:

3 years as a full-time classroom tuition educator.

I teach Economics differently.

Back when I was studying economics in JC, I remember feeling lost, not understanding the chapters and content. As a tutor now, I aim to solve this problem regarding learning Economics. I aim to make Economics not just understandable, but also interesting and applicable for my students and, most importantly, help them excel in their exams.

I believe tutoring is a two-way partnership, where the tutor and student journey together towards the exam. As a tutor, I see it as my duty to actively push and keep my students on track, while constantly levelling up my capabilities. I do my own weekly homework to update myself with each school’s teaching style, curriculum and lesson flow.

I also had a background in coaching sports for all levels of students (Pri, Sec, University), so I am used to interacting with students and know how to capture their attention & guide them during lessons. (and yes, kirby is my real name)

What Our Students Say

Other Educators

Kirby Ng is the H2 Economics tutor at Higher Nucleus Learning Studio (NUS Economics), teaching small-group JC1/JC2 classes in Bishan and Bukit Timah under SEAB syllabus 9570, and is the creator of the site's Rank Point / UAS Calculator.

Three Pillars, Applied to Every Lesson

A consistent, repeatable approach to H2 Economics — not a different trick for every topic, but a structured system that works across essays, case studies and timed examinations.

Pillar 01

Structured Essays & Keyword Analysis

A repeatable system for writing economics essays — thesis statement, theoretical explanation with diagram, real-world application and evaluation — built on identifying command words and context cues before writing, so every paragraph is targeted rather than guessed at. Taught through an "I do, we do, you do" progression: I model a full essay first, then we build one together, before students write independently.

Pillar 02

Contextualised Evaluation

An approach to evaluation that goes beyond generic two-sided analysis — using real-world Singapore context, time-frame considerations, magnitude assessment and policy effectiveness criteria. The goal is not to write more — it is to write with depth. This is what separates a B-grade answer from an A.

Pillar 03

Sufficient Exam Practice

Understanding a concept and performing it under exam conditions are different skills. Alongside the two frameworks above, students get regular timed practices and drill sessions — CSQ and essay — so that by the real A-Level exam, working within the time limit feels familiar, not stressful.

The Rank Point / UAS Calculator

I built and maintain the Higher Nucleus Rank Point Calculator — a free tool that computes your University Admission Score under the new 70-point UAS system and shows which NUS, NTU and SMU courses your grades can reach. Every course profile is sourced directly from official university publications and re-verified after each admissions cycle.

The calculator also handles four computation scenarios (three H2 + GP base, optional H2 uplift, H1 contrasting, and first-choice bonus), two worked examples, and a FAQ section addressing common myths — including the widely-held misconception that H3 subjects add bonus points to the UAS (they do not).
